At CES 2023, Citizen introduced new smart watches designed to help you reach your maximum daily potential. The Citizen CZ Smart watches run a new CZ Smart YouQ app based on NASA fatigue science research and neural networks built by Watson Studio on IBM Cloud. The app helps you understand your sleep and alertness patterns and other biometric data with insights and personal strategies so you can do your best.

Watson uses data from from multiple on-board sensors plus scores from an alertness test to identify your chronotype within 7 to 10 days. Humans are one of four basic chronotypes: Dolphin, Wolf, Lion, or Bear. Your chronotype is your preferred natural sleep and alertness schedule or timing. For example, if you’re a morning person you’re a Bear. The AI software keeps learning and refines your profile while you continue to wear the Citizen CZ Smart watch.

The sensor lineup in Citizen CZ Smart watches includes a gyroscope, altimeter, barometer, accelerometer, heart rate sensor, blood oxygen saturation sensor, ambient light sensor, and a GPS. The Alert Monitor test is a short, gamified version based on NASA’s Psychomotor Vigilance Task Test (PVT+) developed at NASA’s Ames Research Center Fatigue Countermeasures Laboratory in Silicon Valley, California. The CZ Smart YouQ app uses your profile information to help you better understand your health in addition to learning about your sleep and alertness patterns.

Citizen CZ Smart Sport watches and Citizen CZ Smart Casual watches have identical electronics and features. The Sport models have 44mm cases and the Casual models have 41mm cases. The two models are also available in different colors. Both Citizen CZ Smart model lines have 416 x 416 resolution, 321 ppi, 1.28-inch AMOLED displays and 316 stainless steel cases. The watches run with QUALCOMM Snapdragon Wear4100+ processors using 1GB RAM and 8GB of onboard storage. The Wear OS by Google operating system is compatible with both Android and iOS phones. Battery life varies, but Citizen rates it at up to 24+ hours with a claimed 40 minute charging time.

Citizen plans to launch the Citizen CZ Smart watches in March 2023. Prices within each model will vary based on watch band material, color, or finish. The CZ Smart Sport watches will retail for $375 to $435 and the CZ Smart Casual watches will retail from $350 to $435.
