Use of wearables in healthcare is on the rise for tracking key vitals, problem specific information, and for better patient management and care. Integration of information captured by wearables with patient management systems used by hospitals and doctors offices is critical to get all information in one place for better decision making and to reduce doctor office visit.

MyCarolinas Tracker, an app from Carolinas HealthCare System does just this. The mobile app is available for both iOS and Android mobile devices, and syncs and stores information from more than 25 different wearable devices including fitness trackers, glucometers, weight scales, heart rate monitors, pulse oximeters, and thermometers. It also provides the ability to enter information manually. The app also tracks information on lab work done at the doctor’s request. It creates reports that can be shared with doctors/caregivers for regular monitoring of health. The app also lets its users set up health goals and informs them of their achievements. The system is only available to subscribers in the Carolinas HealthCare System.

For wearables to be an integral part of healthcare system, they must be integrated with health tracking systems. This is the first step towards ensuring that the data captured by wearables makes its way to the doctors hands in a seamless manner ensuring better health management for its users.
