Flow is a free app for iOS and Android smartphones that uses cognitive behavioral therapy to help users deal with depression. It guides the user through more than 50 sessions with a virtual therapist. It also provides instruction on strategies to improve sleep, diet, exercise, and meditation.
In a Joint press release earlier this month, Flow Neuroscience and ORCHA announced that the Flow app is the highest-scoring free depression treatment app in the ORCHA App Library. ORCHA (the Organisation for the Review of Care and Health Apps) works with the U.K. National Health Service to review and screen health care apps. ORCHA maintains an App Library of effective online tools that clinicians can recommend to their patients.
ORCHA tested both smartphone versions of the Flow app and provide links to both the iOS and Android reviews. The ORCHA assessment scored the Flow app with a 72% rating, the highest rating for any of the free depression treatment apps in its library of recommended apps.
The Flow app can be used as a stand-alone program, but it can also be used in conjunction with the Flow headset to control the device. The CE-cleared headset provides transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) to the brain to reduce symptoms of depression.
