Fitbit smartwatch users who live in select EU countries will soon be able to monitor their heart rhythm with the FibriCheck Fitbit app, previously available only with smartphones. The CE-marked FibriCheck employs Fitbit’s PPG (photoplethysmography) sensors to measure the user’s heart rhythm and displays the results on the Fitbit screen in 60 seconds.
Users can share their heart rhythm measurements with physicians via a FibriCheck web interface for monitoring or diagnosis. FibriCheck validated the app on Fitbit smartwatches in a clinical trial that compared the app’s algorithm results to gold-standard 12-lead ECG and state-of-the-art single-lead wearable ECG technologies. The results showed the FibriCheck Fitbit app was highly accurate detecting atrial fibrillation compared to ECGs.
Users who own Fitbit Versa, Versa Lite Edition, Versa 2, and Ionic smartwatches will be able to use FibriCheck on a subscription basis in Belgium, the Netherlands, Ireland, and the UK.
