Have you ever gone for a dental checkup and been scolded by the hygienist or the dentist for not taking care of your teeth the way they want you to? It can be a little embarrassing when you think you’re doing a good job with home care and you also think you know how to brush your teeth. After all, you’ve been doing it since you learned when you were a little kid. Well, it might be that you’re not doing it right. It also might be that you are doing what you’re supposed to do, the right way and for the right duration, but something else isn’t right. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a way to find out yourself, for sure, if you’re brushing the right way and at the same time, have a record that you could show to the dentist and hygienist to show them what you’re doing, too?
A new product coming in early 2017 will let you record real-time video when you brush your teeth. Prophix by ONVI will record and stream video to your iPhone and then you can send it via Wi-Fi to anyone with whom you care to share your dental hygiene habits. Prophix is available for pre-order for $299 or (the launch price will be $399). The standard package will include the device, a charging base, and four replaceable attachments. The standard package includes a rotating toothbrush, a rubber prophy cup (which is what hygienists use when they clean your teeth), a rubber tip to use on your gums to increase blood flow, and a mirror to so you can check out hard to reach areas. There will also be a Prophix Bundle which will add a rubber plague scaler. The Prophix Bundle costs $324 on pre-order or $424 when it launches.
In addition to real-time videos you can also shoot and store single images so you can check out your progress over time. Overall, Prophix may seem costly for an electric toothbrush, but if you have problem teeth, you and your dental health care professionals can probably use all the help you can get. Or maybe you just want to be able to send them a video to prove that you’re doing it right.
