Part of modern life is that we are assailed by noise. At home, at work, and everywhere in between, noise can make it difficult to sleep, to concentrate, or to simply relax. Bose put active noise cancellation technology on the map — and on consumers’ ears — with their headphones that are popular with frequent flyers. Active noise cancellation works by listening to ambient sounds and then creating sound waves that are the exact opposite so that they cancel each other out.
QuietOn is a new product that applies active noise cancellation to earplugs. These are not earphones because you can’t use them to listen to music; all they do is generate quiet. According to the company, they are small enough that you can sleep comfortably with them in your ears. The company also claims that the electronics are optimized to cancel out snoring and sounds that would be transmitted through walls that could disrupt sleep. They come with a carrying case that also serves as a charging station; the company claims that the plugs can operate up to 50 hours on a single charge. They can also be worn when traveling or in a noisy workplace so that it is easier to concentrate. The company’s Indiegogo campaign has received more than 8 times its targeted goal, and the first products are expected to ship in June 2016.
Peace and quiet can be hard to come by, and a product like QuietOn may be able to help people reduce the stress in their lives.
