Wellograph

If you want something more than just a fitness band, but want something less than a full-blown smartwatch, you might want to take a look at the Wellograph. This $350 wrist-worn Health Tech has been shipping since August, and provides more information than your average fitness band. In addition to a nine-axis motion sensor, it has a 3-LED and sensor system that can detect heartbeats. As a result, it can track your heart rate at intervals throughout the day, without the need of a separate chest band.

The watch can store up to four months’ of data, and communicates with an app running on a smartphone, using Bluetooth LED as a wireless connection. This saves power; the watch is designed to run a full week between charges. The apps are available for iOS, Android, and Windows devices. Its display can show a wide range of information, including calories burned, distance traveled, and heart rate data including max, min, and average by day. And it can show you the time of day.

The elegant design is capped by a curved sapphire crystal watch face. This is one of the most scratch-resistant materials available, and complements the stainless and aluminum watch case. It’s a bit bulky and heavy — it is rated at nearly a quarter of a pound — but you can wear it while swimming or showering. It is available with optional leather straps.
